As I write this, it is mid-afternoon, darkness falls and the wind and the rain rattles against the windows! It seems an age to the next summer school, but you know what? – the New Year is just around the corner and the long August days where musicians of all ages, races, creeds and abilities mix together to work and relax is not that far away. Canford of course never stands still. This year we have several new innovations including the “observer status enrolment” for those who don’t wish to participate but would like to watch and listen (an ideal opportunity for the non-performing partner of some of our students) - have a look at the information section in this brochure for full details. The new “star” course will be the Classic Musical, South Pacific. It promises to be an exuberant week in the inspirational care of two passionate musical theatre experts, Jamie Henderson and Simon Eliot (the pre-summer school excitement already generated by this course seems to indicate that it will be a ‘sell out’, so book early!). Another additional feature will be the availability of Sherborne School’s new, ‘state of the art’ Music School offering us even more purpose built rehearsal rooms, practice rooms and another small concert hall . . . . . . and finally: We have the extra pleasure of welcoming two internationally recognised musicians to join Angela Malsbury’s team on the Wind Chamber Music course, Christopher Newport (who has twice stepped in at short notice to help us in the past) and the inspiring David Chatterton. We know they will bring new vision to one of our most popular courses. We look forward to welcoming you in 2010, whether you be old friends or new friends enrolling for the first time. All in all there is no doubt we are in for a very special treat, Canford at Sherborne is always an experience, and this year will be no exception.
